Harry and Meghan are reportedly filming a documentary series

Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, stepped down as senior royals and moved to California, the couple have embarked on multiple private ventures, from the children’s book Meghan penned to their joint charity organisation, Archewell.

In 2020, Harry and Meghan signed a multi-year deal with Netflix rumoured to be worth around $240 million USD. Although Meghan’s proposed animated series, Pearl, was recently dropped by the streaming service after a downturn in subscribers this year, reports say that documentary-style series focused on the royal couple is in the works.

Page Six reported that a producer ‘in the know’ told them that, ‘the timing is still being discussed, things are up in the air,’ in relation to the rumoured Harry and Meghan documentary series. While Netflix is keen to air the series this year to tie in with the release of Prince Harry’s memoir, the Sussexes are less keen on a hurried release and would prefer it aired on Netflix in 2023.

Talk of a Harry and Meghan documentary has been swirling for some time now, ever since the couple was spotted being followed by a film crew on a trip to New York in September 2021. Page Six said that the cameras have also been allowed ‘behind the scenes at their home’ in Montecito, California.

The couple was also followed by cameras at the Invictus Games in the Netherlands last month, but it has already been confirmed that this footage was being captured for another Netflix docu-series being produced by Archewell Productions called Heart of Invictus.

You could say that Harry and Meghan are following in the Queen’s footsteps with their upcoming TV series – the Queen once also commissioned a fly-on-the-wall documentary-style TV programme on life inside Buckingham Palace, although it only aired on television once, before being relegated to the archives as Her Majesty was reportedly not a fan.

It will be interesting to see the final results!
