Searches for this fashion staple are up 240% on Pinterest

The autumn/winter season is all about staple pieces; those core garments that can be found in every woman’s wardrobe, and most importantly, can be worn over and over again to create different outfits. We’re talking blue jeans, white T-shirts and most popular of all, the grey jumper.

While they might not sound like the most exciting purchase, according to Pinterest, grey jumpers are the hottest fashion trend going at the moment, with searches for the key item having spiked by 240% over the last few months. In fact, one grey jumper outfit image alone receives over 26,000 repins on the platform, so it’s safe to say its very much loved.

While this obviously has a lot to do with the change in climate – cosy knitwear and darker colours are always favoured during the cold, wet winter months – it’s also down the the versatility of the grey jumper. No matter the shade, it can quite literally be worn with everything.

Even the celebs are loving it. Rochelle Humes recently stepped out in dark grey jumper which she styled perfectly with a black mini skirt, pointed white boots and a lovely grey tartan winter coat. Similarly, Holly Willoughby sported a lighter shade of grey during a visit to BGC Charity Day last month with a chic pair of checked grey trousers, proving once again that grey on grey is a look.

As the experts always say, however, an easy way to style your grey knitwear is to match it with a tonal ensemble. Camel, cream and brown shades always compliment grey and instantly adds a touch of sophistication to your look.
