The Duchess of Cambridge wore them to Chelsea Flower Show, Holly Willoughby appears on our screens in them almost every morning and practically the whole of Instagram is in bloom. While they might not be ‘groundbreaking’ at the Miranda Priestly school of fashion, the truth is that florals never truly go out of style.
For SS19, we saw blooms and blossoms splattered across catwalks during Fashion Month, be it on dresses, tops, accessories or even dungarees as seen on Nicolas Ghesquière’s Louis Vuitton runway back in January. The print was everywhere and more versatile than ever.
In the shops, this summer’s floral prints range from dainty and ditsy to bright and bold – and we’re adding them to our wardrobe in droves. In fact, the BBC recently reported that surging demand for floral prints helped online retail giant Boohoo post a huge jump in revenue from March until the end of May – and it isn’t the only one.
Topshop’s viral floral Austin midi dress has been so popular this season that it was recently redesigned into an influencer-approved blouse, while floral prints as a whole have seen huge sales across the store, according to the brand’s global design director Anthony Cuthbertson. ‘Floral dresses, in particular, have been selling out fast. In fact, they’re so popular that they are searched for over 200 times a day online,’ he revealed to fashion trends website Who What Wear.
Sellouts aside, it’s not too late to get the look before the temperatures really soar. We’ve compiled a list of our favourite items that are still in stock. Happy shopping!
