Fearne Cotton has teamed up with Dulux to make your home a more relaxing place

As the author of books entitled Happy, Calm and Quiet, as well as the founder of her own Happy Place Festival, Fearne Cotton knows a thing or two about bringing a little extra tranquility into a room. So it makes perfect sense that when it came to picking an ambassador for Dulux’s 2020 Colour of the Year, Tranquil Dawn, she was top of the list.

For the second year running, Fearne has teamed up with the brand to front their COTY campaign, and in doing so is bringing us her top tips for making your space a little more zen.

‘Tranquil Dawn is a colour I already have in my house, in the front room and my bedroom,’ she reveals. ‘Both of these are rooms where I like to relax and feel calm. That feeling of being closer to nature, of bringing the outside in, is one I love, and this colour does that perfectly.’

‘I want to create inviting spaces at home, where if it’s family who are there or friends are visiting, we can lock eyes, connect and there isn’t a screen to be seen.

Tranquil Dawn is a peaceful pale green hue with undertones of grey and blue, inspired by the morning sky and designed to make us disconnect from technology more often and reconnect with nature – and each other – instead.

‘Switching off is something few of us actually achieve in reality,’ says Fearne. ‘Life is so busy with work, friends and family that we all need time when there is less thinking, and we just enjoy the simple things again.

‘For me, that means walking, running, listening to music, painting, baking and drawing – things that are instinctive and bring me joy. It’s so important to make room for joy in our busy lives.’

To bring the shade into your home, Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director of Dulux, suggests teaming it with other pastels or sumptuous jewel shades for contrast and warmth.

‘A new decade heralds a new dawn and the soft, misty green of Tranquil Dawn offers us the perfect calming and comforting shade just when we need both elements most,’ she adds.

‘When paired with neutral pastels and rich jewel colours, it becomes incredibly powerful at creating spaces that encourage a greater sense of wellbeing and making better connections with the ones we love.’

As part of the partnership, Fearne and Dulux will also be launching a series of top tips and how-to videos, so watch this space for further inspiration.
