Dyson has launched a new hair tool and the internet is going wild for it already

Two and a half years after the launch of its now-iconic Supersonic hair dryer, Dyson have launched the next generation in styling technology: the Dyson Airwrap.

The new tool has been six years in the making, and promises to create bouncy curls, perfect waves and sleek blowdries without the need for extreme heat. So how does it work, and where can you get your hands on it?

How does the Dyson Airwrap work?

The team behind the Dyson Airwrap spent £24million researching styling habits to ensure that their product stood out from others on the market – and true to their word, this is a wand with a difference.

The secret to the Dyson Airwrap’s effectiveness lies in the Coanda effect, allows it to style hair without the need for extreme heat. Instead, as the name suggests, it attracts and wraps the strands using air, with a range of attachments to help you achieve your preferred look.

The product’s ‘intelligent heat control’ measures the temperature over 40 times a second and regulates heat, to ensure it always stays below 150°C. It’s the combination of this powerful airflow – powered by a digital motor – and controlled heat which leaves hair looking smooth, voluminous and healthy, with minimal damage and long-lasting results.

Sir James Dyson, the company’s founder and chairman, said of the launch: ‘We have been obsessively manipulating airflow for more than 25 years. It is one of our core areas of expertise.

‘Harnessing the power of Dyson’s digital motor, we have engineered a unique styling tool which prevents extreme heat damage when styling. I’m immensely proud of what our engineers have achieved.’

Is the Dyson Airwrap any good?

Despite its very recent release, the Dyson Airwrap already has a host of 5 star reviews from those lucky enough to preview its ‘magic’ (their words, not ours).

‘Dyson can’t put a foot wrong. This amazing tool is so easy to use, light weight and as usual appealing to look at,’ wrote one. ‘It curls, straightens and just generally builds volume. It is a considered purchase but much like their hair dryer it is worth every penny.’

Other have called it ‘amazing’ and a ‘game changer’, with one declaring that it’s ‘everything I have ever wanted in a styling tool’.

And while we don’t want to ruin her full review (out in this Sunday’s YOU mag) we can reveal that our very own beauty director, Edwina Ings-Chambers, is a fan…

How much does the Dyson Airwrap cost?

We’ll be straight with you: the Dyson Airwrap doesn’t come cheap.

There are three different versions: Smooth+Control (£399.99) which includes attachments and brushes for unruly, frizz-prone hair, Volume+Shape (£399.99) for hair that’s naturally limp or flat, and Complete (£449.99), which as the name and higher price suggests, is the full Airwrap package.
