The past few summers have undeniably been about the ‘ugly’ sandal when it comes to footwear. 2019 saw the humble Teva shoe rise in popularity, with the most stylish ladies of Instagram sporting their practical styles with jeans, dresses, and shorts. And 2020, summer shoes got even bigger, bulkier, and more ‘dad-like,’ with the Chanel chunky sandal taking centre stage.
The bad news is that a pair of Chanel’s will set you back — wait for it — a cool £2,000+, making them a serious investment. And considering this may be a trend that evolves and updates pretty quickly, that’s a lot of money to spend on some shoes.
The high street has — as ever — come to our rescue, however, with a great range of dupes for a fraction of the price. Perhaps the most notable has been the Lockstock sandal by Dune; a style that is just as chunky and ugly-cool as its more expensive predecessors. And at only £110, the shoe is a steal when compared to designer versions.
Dune’s hit sandal was quickly spotted on the feet of anyone who’s anyone in the fashion and styling world, and you will have struggled to scroll through Instagram without spotting a pair. Unsurprisingly then, they sold out pretty quickly, and have been flying off the shelves ever since.
After amassing a waitlist of over 800 people, Dune bought the sandals back at the end of summer 2020 in four colourways; black raffia style, a multicolour boucle style, a leopard print pair and some black quilted leather ones.
The shoes are the ultimate ‘style meets substance’ item, with a comfy ergonomic sole for comfort, adjustable heel straps for practicality and perfect fit, and bespoke gold turn-lock hardware detailing, to give the shoes an extra cool, modern feel.
All of this to say, Dune has bought the sandals back for 2021 in four, fresh new colourways and textures for SS21. Four colourways will be on offer including blue denim, silver metallic, black and camel quilted leather.
Unsurprisingly, black quilted leather is currently the bestselling style while blue denim has already sold out since launching.
If you have your eye on the camel quilted leather or the silver metallic style, waitlists are now live ahead of their launch in a few weeks time.
It’s worth signing up for the waitlist or checking in daily for a pair, as they are guaranteed to sell out once again.
