If you’re going to invest in just one designer item this autumn, make it a great pair of jeans.
Denim is the perfect way of updating your look in an instant, and if you’re anything like us, you’ll get fantastic cost-per-wear value. Plus, nothing feels better than perfectly fitted jeans!
So what are the hottest autumn/winter 2015 jeans trends? We caught up with Jean Queen, Donna Ida to find out what’s going to be flying off the shelves this season.
Flares aren’t just for fashionistas
Seventies styling is really going to hit the high street this autumn. Donna’s noticed that those of her customers with an extensive jeans collection are already buying into this new shape – particularly in dark blue-black colour way as it’s ‘the easy way to wear this style, as it’s the most flattering colour’. Then there’s the Adelaide, below; an extreme wide-leg that comes in a slightly wet-look with a black-coated Grease fabric (an amazing leather-look for the new season) as well as in classic blue denim. And for those who don’t ‘do’ high heels, there’s even a ‘sneaker flare’ – a cute updated bootcut that’s slightly slimmer on the leg, then gently swoops out over your trainers leaving just a toe peeping out at the front. ‘We all want to keep on the move – jeans and sneakers are a match made in fashion heaven,’ notes Donna.
Skinnies are still popular, but the more relaxed-fit boyfriend jean is catching up fast
Donna is a big fan of high-rise jeans (though you can buy her boyfriends in a low-rise cut, too): ‘I love the way a high-rise gives a clean line and lengthens your legs – but by rolling up the jeans at the ankle, you get a sexy vibe too. Perfect for wearing with ankle boots or knee-highs for a fresh, modern look. I love the idea of flashing the tiniest bit of ankle – even in winter – by rolling your skinnies or boyfriends,’ she adds.
Some of us will be buying into a more traditional denim feel
Most Donna Ida jeans contain that perfect amount of ‘stretch’ to ensure they hug you really well and feel super-comfortable. But recently she’s noticed a keen interest in more ‘authentic’ jeans, harking back to the original Levi 501s, with a slightly rougher, edgier feel: ‘RE/DONE (above) is the label everyone is talking about – reworking men’s vintage Levi’s into a capsule line of women’s jeans. Every pair is totally original – these are for the true denim connoisseur!’
But the key trend is glamour!
One of Donna Ida’s fabulous new autumn/winter 2015 launches really caught our attention – a boyfriend jean with subtle sparkle in the black denim: ‘The Downtown Dazzler (above), in Disco Noir wash, is our bestseller this week – the jean that does everything! Size up, and roll up at the ankles for a “glunge” look – glamour meets grunge!’
And it seems jeans styling has moved on from the ‘distressed’ look of last season, as the focus for autumn/winter has shifted onto a more luxurious vibe, meaning you’ll be able to wear your new season denim to the office, not just at weekends…
