We’ve got plenty of TV shows to look forward to as we enter the second half of 2019 – from Shonda Rhimes’ upcoming Netflix adaptation of best-selling novel Bridgerton starring Dame Julie Andrews, to Channel 4’s hard-hitting four-part drama I Am… with an all-star female cast including Vicky McClure, Gemma Chan and Samantha Morton.
But it doesn’t stop there, as ITV had just announced yet another amazing drama to add to your list of must-watches.
Deep Water is an upcoming drama starring Emmy award winner Anna Friel and it is set to be a serious good’un. In fact, by the sounds of things, it might just become your latest TV addiction.
The six-part series is an adaptation of the novels by Paula Daly and the script has been written by Anna Symon. So, what can we expect to see? Here’s what we know so far…
What is the plot?
Set in the picturesque Lake District, Deep Water follows the lives of three ‘complex and vibrant’ women, Lisa, Roz and Kate, who are brought together by their daily school runs, thanks to having children of the same age.
The women are trying to do their best for their families, but all three face ‘tough choices with difficult and often messy repercussions,’ according to the show’s summary. Lisa is a ‘chaotic and disorganised’ mother-of-three, ‘who juggles her hectic family life with running a business,’ while her husband Joe works all hours of the day and night as a cab driver.
The second woman, Roz, a physiotherapist who once ran her own practise, is struggling with a financial downfall due to debt caused by her partner, Winston. ‘If she can pay off their debts they will get their lives back on track,’ says ITV. ‘Roz is offered help from an unexpected quarter. The decision she makes could change the course of her life.’
Last but not least, Kate, is a woman who ‘seems to have it all.’ She has two children, her husband Guy and is ‘wealthy and attractive and with a well-drilled and highly organised family life.’ However, ‘with a stunning home overlooking Lake Windermere, Kate and Guy appear to be two of life’s winners, but is it possible Kate is too good to be true?’
Who is the cast?
Marcella star Anna Friel has been cast as Lisa, while Bafta-nominated actress Sinead Keenan (who viewers may recognise from Little Boy Blue and Being Human) plays Roz. Rosalind Eleazar from Howard’s End and Rellik plays Kate.
When will it air?
Luckily, there won’t be much of a wait as Deep Water will be coming to ITV in August. However, the broadcaster has yet to set an exact air date so keep your eyes peeled.
