Deciem, The Ordinary’s parent company, is offering a 23 per cent discount for almost all of November, with the exception of one crucial date: Black Friday, when not only will the offers pause, but the brand will close all of its bricks-and-mortar retail stores.
In a promotion dubbed Black(out) Friday, the brand explains its rejection of the annual online shopping frenzy, saying that ‘it no longer feels comfortable being involved in a single day so heavily entered around hyper-consumerism.’
‘Feeling that Black Friday is no longer a consumer or earth-friendly event, Deciem has found an alternative way to bring a saving to its audience,’ the statement continues. ‘By applying a saving to all products for a significantly long period of time, the brand hopes to allow people the flexibility to shop slowly for their specific concerns and needs.’
‘We strongly believe that skincare decisions should be based on education rather than impulse and we want to give our audience the time for research, reflection and consideration.’
The decision has won Deciem major praise from customers on social media, with one exclaiming: ‘ I have wanted to purchase your products for a long time. I’m going to purchase this month for sure! I love this promotion.’
‘Just placed my order, such a brilliant initiative,’ agreed another, while a third added: ‘Wow. As someone that has had a 15+ year career in corporate retail, I applaud what you are doing and what you stand for.’
