Sustainability is the hottest buzzword in beauty at the moment, and for good reason. From excessive packaging to wasteful single-use make up wipes, the beauty industry is rife with unsustainable products and practices, which is why we’re always on the hunt for new ways to cut back on waste when it comes to our beauty routines, and especially budget-friendly eco-tips and tricks.
And it seems Davina McCall has the same idea, too. On the latest episode of her podcast Making The Cut, which she describes as ‘Tripadvisor for your life’, Davina raves about one particularly good-for-the-planet product that we all need in our bathroom cabinet – reusable cotton pads from a brand called HUKU, which are only £11.99 for a set of 16.
Cotton pads and face wipes are among some of the worst offenders for polluting the planet due to their single-use nature and daily frequency at which they are used, plus face wipes can take more than 100 years to biodegrade.
HUKU’s reusable washable cotton pads are made from bamboo fibres, which is not only a sustainable material – bamboo grows naturally and fast, without need for chemicals or pesticides and isn’t destroyed when harvested – it’s also perfect for skin cleansing because if its hypo-allergenic, anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties.
They work with all toners, micellar waters, make-up removers or simply warm water to remove make up and dirt from the skin, plus the soft pads are super gentle, so perfect for using on even the most sensitive skin as well as the delicate eye area.
One HUKU set comes complete with 16 reusable cotton pads and a cotton mesh wash bag. According to HUKU, one reusable bamboo pad is the equivalent of 300 single use cotton pads, as instead of tossing it into the bin after one use, you simply pop them into the accompanying wash bag and into the washing machine with the rest of your laundry. It couldn’t be easier!
