Announced by Netflix and Beckham on social media, the series will look beyond the footballing icon’s career and headlines, exploring his ‘humble working class beginnings in east London’ and his ‘drive and determination which has led him to become one of the most recognisable and scrutinised athletes of all time.’

Featuring interviews with his friends and family, including wife Victoria and their children, Brooklyn, 23, Romeo, 19, Cruz, 17, and Harper, 11, there will also be plenty of never-before-seen personal archive footage for the last forty years and interviews with the man himself, as well as the people who have been key figures on his life both on and off the pitch.

Posting some nostalgia-fuelled throwback photos to Instagram to announce the news, David wrote: ‘I’m excited to confirm that I am partnering with @Netflix on a documentary series about my life and career … The series will feature unseen archive, untold stories as well as interviews with the people who have been a part of my journey.’

While Netflix tweeted: ‘BREAKING NEWS: A documentary series about global football icon and former England captain David Beckham is currently in production!’

It’s thought that the series will take a peek behind the curtain of his marriage to wife Victoria Beckham and family life with their four kids, as well as shining a light on his part ownership of American soccer club Inter Miami CF.

We don’t yet know when the series will air but we can’t imagine we’ll have too long to wait for what will likely be one of Netflix’s much-talked about documentary series. Let’s hope it lives up to the hype!
