Dame Deborah James – aka @bowelbabe – has been on all our minds a lot recently, after she revealed that she is now receiving hospice care at home five years after being diagnosed with bowel cancer.
While Deborah has been very upfront about the fact she is dying, it hasn’t stopped her being a one woman force of nature, raising millions for cancer charities thanks to the Bowelbabe Fund she recently set up. And, in typical Deborah style, she has always been looking super glamorous in all her social media posts over the last couple of weeks, wearing an array of fabulous outfits as she promotes her various charitable endeavours.
It’s fitting then that one of the ways Deborah is raising money for the fund is through a clothing collaboration with In The Style. Last week, she released a T-shirt with her catchphrase – ‘Rebellious Hope’ – emblazoned on the front, and promptly raised £400,000 for The Bowelbabe Fund.
Now, the full collection – which Dame Deborah had already been working on for several months – is to go on sale, launching tonight (Thursday May 26) at 7pm on the In The Style app.
‘I love fashion. Anybody that’s followed me for years and years will know that I love my dresses, I’m always hunting for the best prints’ said Dame Deborah in a video released on Instagram. ‘When I first started this collection I didn’t realise that I’d be spending a hybrid life in hospital and at home. I said to the team at In The Style I can still work from hospital, and we made it happen.
Speaking of the collection, she said: ‘It was honestly never my intention to die before it was released, which I’m really gutted by. I really hope you love it as much as I loved designing it. I hope it brings you joy, I hope it makes you feel great when you put it on.’
As for what the collection will include, ‘It perfectly encapsulates the British summertime – with outfits perfect for Wimbledon, The Races, garden parties and Pimms in the park: all activities that Dame Deborah has enjoyed for years’ says the clothing brand. ‘In The Style is communicating regularly with Deborah and her family, and following Deborah’s wishes to go ahead with the range, the collection will be launching tonight, Thursday 26th May, with profits going to Deborah’s chosen charity.’
The collection will retail at £15-55, with a hair scrunchie available for £8.
