A classic loafer never goes out of style, but this season the failsafe shoe style has undergone a chunky revamp.
Thanks to a certain Prada launching a pair of chunky loafers as part of its Pre-Fall 2020 collection (and the fact that pandemic dressing has made heels totally redundant), it’s now the shoe everyone is wearing. The fashion set went mad for Prada’s shoes and they can now be seen all over Instagram.
But with a £645 price tag, the rest of us mere mortals can only dream of owning such a pair, which is why LIKEtoKNOW.it has reported a 2000 per cent increase in searches from consumers looking for loafers on the app.
Luckily, the high street has swiftly picked up on this new trend and there are dozens of thick-soled loafers to choose from at much more purse-friendly price points. So what are we looking for? Ideally you want a slip-on shoe (no laces here – that’s a brogue) in leather or faux leather with a thick rubber sole and a slight heel. Basically, if it looks like the type of shoe you wore to school, you’re on the right track.
ASOS has heaps of styles to choose from under £100, but the elevated loafer style can be found all over the high street, from Arket, Monki and Zara to Marks & Spencer, Next and Debenhams. We’ve found 15 at various price points to kickstart your search.
