It’s London Fashion Week, but not as we know it – in fact, it’s fair to say that nothing about 2020 has ensued quite how we expected it to. But one thing that the coronavirus pandemic has highlighted more than ever is the importance of community and helping others whenever possible, even through your sartorial choices.
Choose Love is an initiative that has raised millions for the charity Help Refugees to support displaced and vulnerable communities since it began in 2015, in part thanks to its signature slogan t-shirts. And as of today, one small yet significant way you can use your wardrobe to advocate for change is by investing in the new batch of tees, which just launched in partnership with the British Fashion Council and five of the UK’s most exciting established and emerging designers.
Ahluwalia, 16Arlington, Tolu Cocker, Nabil Nayal & Olubiyi Thomas have all contributed designs inspired by the Choose Love design originally gifted to the charity by Katharine Hamnett in 2015. For each £25 top sold, £10 per t-shirt will be donated to the charity and every penny of their proceeds will go to their projects, supporting refugees in 14 countries.
The edit also features the first the first ever Choose Love t-shirt where Choose Love appears both in English and in Arabic, courtesy of British Syrian designer Nabil Nayal, who lived in Syria until the age of 14.
‘It’s an honour and a privilege to have partnered with Help Refugees in support of the Choose Love campaign,’ he says of the project. ‘I’ve bee humbled by the team’s warmth and positivity, and I’m so happy to be able to represent my Middle Eastern heritage for this hugely important cause.’
‘Choose Love is such an incredible organisation – we both stand by all that they represent,’ echo Marco Capaldo and Federica Cavenati, of 16Arlington. ‘Their core values and tenacity towards such an important global issues is truly inspiring. We are honoured to have been given the opportunity to work with them and to follow in the footsteps of so many greats who have collaborated before us.’
Not only do this year’s Choose Love t-shirts represent the opportunity to own a slice of fashion history from some of the industry’s biggest and brightest names, you can also wear yours with pride knowing you’re supporting some of the people in greatest need around the world.
Here are the five designs available now from choose.love – if you’ve got £25 to spare, we can’t think of many better ways to spend it.
