Following in the footsteps of mega musician biopics such as Rocketman, Bohemian Rhapsody and Judy, there’s now going to be a film all about Cher’s life. The former YOU Magazine cover star made the exciting announcement on 19 May – a day before her 75th birthday.

Cher, real name Cherilyn Sarkisia, tweeted to say Universal is doing a biopic produced by Gary Goetzman and Judy Craymer, who are the producers behind the Mamma Mia! theatre show.

The star also confirmed that Oscar-winning writer Eric Roth is going to be writing the biopic. He’s the screenwriter behind classic films such as Forrest GumpA Star is Born and Suspect, which Cher herself starred in. With titles like that under his belt, we’re expecting big things. Although, we wouldn’t expect anything less than a big showstopper from a Cher film anyway.

Chatting to Deadline, Judy Craymer said: ‘Gary and I are thrilled to be working with Cher again and this time bringing her empowering and true-life odyssey to the big screen. One cannot help but be drawn to and inspired by Cher’s larger than life talent, fortitude, unique wit, warmth and vision.

‘Her unparalleled success in music film and TV have inspired generations. We could not be happier to tell her story to cinema audiences.’
