Britain’s oldest woman says that these two things are the key to a long life

Wellness tips are everywhere these days – but if we’re going to take them, we can’t think of anyone better to listen to than Grace Jones, who has reportedly become the country’s oldest woman after celebrating her 112th birthday.

‘Amazing Grace’, as she’s known to family and friends, credits her long life to two things: her sunny disposition, and drinking a tot of whisky every day for the last 60 years.

‘Whisky is very good for you,’ Grace told Gloucestershire Live, adding that Famous Grouse single malt whisky is her go-to brand.

‘I started having a nightly tot of it when I turned 50 so I’ve been having it every night for the last 60 years and I certainly have no intention of stopping now.’

‘My doctor said “keep up with the whisky Grace, it’s good for your heart”. I still feel the same as I did when I was 60.’

Even her daughter, Deidre McCarthy, spoke to the title in support of a regular glass of the stuff.

‘She loves her tot of whisky every evening before she goes to bed and why not. Whisky is her thing and she’s been having it for the last 60 years,’ Deirdre, who is 80 herself, explained.

‘I must say I certainly take after her in that regard, it’s the perfect way to unwind at the end of the day and it’s certainly done my mother no end of good.’

Having marked the momentous occasion of turning 112 with a gathering at her local Buckland House Hotel, where she’s become something of a regular, Grace declared that she’s looking forward to doing it all again next year.

‘”I feel fine. I feel full of spirit. I have received lots of nice cards and presents this year and they are still coming in,’ she said. ‘We will be here next year as well.’
