Since Boris Johnson laid out his plans for easing lockdown restrictions over the next few weeks, there have been particular products that have seen their sales soar. In fact, John Lewis revealed exclusively to YOU Magazine that there were five products in particular that saw an immediate uplift in sales since the roadmap out of lockdown was released.
Speaking today with John Lewis’s Make-Up Buyer, Laurie Cilberto, she revealed there is another category that is booming; tinted moisturisers and lightweight base products that offer a fresh, sheer finish. These she predicts will become staples in our make-up bag this summer.
Laurie said, ‘we’ve already seen strong demand for tinted moisturisers, with online sales up by 138 per cent. Laura Mercier’s signature Tinted Moisturiser is one of our bestsellers and also contains SPF which is ideal for the changing weather.’
Laure also predicted that ‘we will also see formulas develop to include skin benefitting ingredients to enhance the appearance of a natural complexion. Estée Lauder is leading the charge in this area with the new Futurist Hydra Rescue Moisturising Make-Up, which features probiotic technology, Ion-charged water complex and chia-seed extract to hydrate, plump and even skin tone.
‘Laura Mercier is also playing to this space with the Pure Canvas Primer collection which is infused with ingredients including vitamin C and E, olive oil extract and microalgae to improve the look of skin over time. To complement this natural look, we will also see subtle glow-enhancers prove popular’.
Well, there we have it. After almost an entire year of living and working from home, it seems many of us are not quite ready to resort back to a full-coverage foundation and would prefer to use multi-tasking, moisturising make-up instead.
