Fragrance is so personal. Something that you love, somebody else may turn their nose up at. But some perfumes are so universally loved that they seem to strike a chord among a variety of different people and just sell, sell, sell. Now, The Fragrance Shop has unveiled its list of the top ten bestselling fragrances of 2021 so far, which proves that some scents are eternally beloved.
Unsurprisingly, Chanel is the UK’s favourite brand according to the list, with two out of three of the top spots going to scents from the major fashion house for both men and women. While Coco Mademoiselle is the bestselling scent for women, it’s Bleu De Chanel that won the hearts of men everywhere.
However, there are plenty of other popular perfume brands that also appeared on the lineup, including YSL, Dior, Lancome, and Thierry Mugler. Most of these are classic scents that are tried and tested, which accounted in part for a 164 per cent year on year increase in online sales for The Fragrance Shop.
‘Never discount the classics, they have become fragrance icons for a reason,’ commented Athina Macpherson, Head of Brands for The Fragrance Shop. ‘We have just gone through the most turbulent time of recent history, and our consumer sales data highlights that our shoppers have sought comfort in what they know – classic scents that have cemented cult status. In times of uncertainty, our favourite, nostalgic scent has been like putting on an old cardigan. It provides warmth, reassurance, comfort and peace of mind.’
