These are the best sightseeing attractions in the UK

When it comes to holidays, we’re usually so eager to get out of the country and visit somewhere hot (with less chance of rain!), that we don’t even consider staying closer to home. But, to give the UK a bit of credit, what it lacks in reliable weather it makes up for in places of interest, culture, history and sightseeing spots.

Car maintenance brand Prestone has done some research to create a guide of the best attractions in the UK for sightseeing that you can reach by car, particularly focusing on castles, palaces and national heritage sites.

They gathered data on hundreds of attractions in the UK, taking into consideration factors like the average temperature, rainfall, Google search volume, and customer star rating from TripAdvisor, Google and Facebook reviews. With those in mind, they then gave each castle, palace, park or heritage site a score out of 100.

So, what topped the list?…

As you can see, no attractions in Northern England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland were featured in the top 10, despite being filled with history and culture. That’s all down to the weather, as these places have a higher average rainfall and lower average temperatures.

But further insights revealed in Scotland, Edinburgh Castle earned the top attraction. In the North East of England, Barnard Castle came out on top, and in the North West it was Beestone Castle. In Greater London, Gunnersbury Park joined Chiswick House in first place for the average hottest temperature all year around.
