Have you got any plans for the long Easter weekend? If you’re yet to book a lovely (and local) getaway for you and our loved ones then look no further, as a new survey has revealed the best place for staycations in the UK for the season ahead.
According to research from Sykes Holiday Cottages, Whitby is the place to visit in 2019. The beautiful seaside town in Yorkshire topped the holiday rental website’s list for go-to holiday destinations in the UK, thanks to its many wonders.
Not only is the town known for its Gothic abbey – the abbey that inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula, no less – but it offers a Blue Flag beach, some of the best and most raved about fish and chips the country has to offer, and last but certainly not least, plenty of rich maritime history to visitors to explore, including the grade II listed East and West piers and the Captain Cook Memorial Museum.
Sykes Holiday Cottages also found that more than 51 per cent of Brits are planning to spend their main summer holiday in the UK this year, meaning you’ll have time to not only visit the number one spot but also the charming runner-ups.
Salcombe, a gorgeous beach town in Devon was listed as the second most popular staycation spot in the UK on the company’s index, followed by the lovely Dartmouth, which also happens to be in Devon. The fourth best destination on the list was Keswick, a market town located in the Lake District.
