With social distancing in full swing and the nation spending more time at home than ever, jigsaw puzzles for adults have never been more in demand – or on trend.
‘We’re experiencing high demand for jigsaw puzzles and sales are similar to what we usually see around Christmas (our busiest time of the year for puzzles),’ a spokesperson for John Lewis & Partners tells YOU, adding that they’re currently awaiting a restock of their sellout Galison 1,000-piece ranges.
And department stores aren’t the only ones seeing the surge – even Amazon availability is low as we look to puzzles to give us some mindful, screen-free downtime (until you take a picture of the finished product for Instagram, that is).
From complex designs to soothing, colourful patterns, they are obviously an age-old boredom buster, but puzzles also make a great distraction when you’re feeling overwhelmed or anxious – as many of us are in the current climate. Mental health charity Mind even notes the usefulness of games and puzzles as a coping mechanism during crisis.
