There are endless hotel chains to choose from when you’re travelling in the UK. Whether you want to treat yourself to a swanky stay or go easy on your bank account with budget-friendly accommodation, there’s enough to take your pick. But which option speaks to the masses?
Not to much surprise, it is the latter. Who doesn’t love a cheap and cheerful deal? And it turns out no one does that better than Wetherspoon’s hotels. The brand has been crowned the best chain in the UK, beating off five-star rivals for the prestigious title.
The accolade comes after a recent survey by Which? found that the budget hotel was the best ‘value for money’ according to guests, who were particular impressed by their ‘sympathetically’ converted buildings, as reported by The Sun.
The win was a first for Wetherspoon’s hotels and came as a joint victory with Premier Inn, which has been a consistent winner for the past four years, according to Which?. Both Wetherspoons and Premier Inn got a total score of 79 per cent of votes, topping luxury brands such as Hilton and Marriott.
The best hotel chains in the UK
- Wetherspoon Hotels – 79 per cent
- Premier Inn – 79 per cent
- Hilton Garden Inn – 78 per cent
- Radisson Blu Edwardian – 77 per cent
- Hilton Hampton – 74 per cent
The results were concluded after Which? asked over 8,000 guests to rate 34 hotel chains across the UK factoring in things such as cleanliness, bed comfort, food, service and value to make their decision.
They reported that guests were full of praise for Wetherspoon hotels, which they liked due to not only great value for money (with prices starting at £39 per night) but also their ‘huge stylish rooms.’
But the brand has also been making headlines this month for introducing their first ever fake meat vegan burger to cater to customers on a plant-based diet. Made by meat-free company The Meatless Farm, the burger is created from soya protein and is topped with avocado, salsa and rocket.
