One of the most exciting memories of this year (so far) has to have been when COVID restrictions eased and we were able to eat inside of restaurants again. We’ll never take food cooked by someone else for granted again! Now, just in time to coincide with more COVID restrictions easing and holidays abroad, Tripadvisor has revealed the best fine dining restaurants in the world, as voted for in the Travellers’ Choice ‘Best of the Best’ award.
French cuisine usually springs to mind when we think of original ‘fine dining’, but you won’t have to travel abroad to visit the best of the best. The Old Stamp House Restaurant in the Lake District, which has been awarded a Michelin star, took the top spot and was rated the best fine dining restaurant in the UK and the world, pushing a French eatery into second place.
One Tripadvisor review of The Old Stamp House read: ‘This was our first time dining at a Michelin starred restaurant and it certainly did not disappoint. Every course was immense. The letter we received on the table with all the details of the ingredients was such a nice touch and really set the tone for the rest of the meal.’
‘It’s hard not to exaggerate just how good the food in this highly impressive restaurant. The Chef combines boldness with delicacy he also has fine eye for presentation,’ another reviewer raved.
Two Michelin-starred restaurant La Maison d’a Cote in central France was awarded second place, followed by Ise Sueyoshi in Tokyo. Other countries with top 10 restaurants include Mexico, Spain, Brazil and Italy.
Two more UK restaurants join The Old Stamp House in the top 25 fine dining list. Placing seventeenth is The Kitchin in Edinburgh, owned by Michelin-starred chef Tom Kitchin and his wife. Following behind at spot number 18 is L’Enclume in Cumbria, which has been awarded two Michelin stars.
