2020 is officially the year of loungewear – bye bye skinny jeans, see you later workwear and au revoir high heels, the only fashion we want to know about right now is loose, comfortable and/or with added elastane.
But when you’ve had enough of days on end of leggings, tracksuit bottoms and sweatshirts (especially as we’re now in a second lockdown in England), we’re looking for something else with maybe a bit more style, but that doesn’t let us down in the comfort stakes. Enter: dungarees.
Great for days at home as well as any outdoor socialising we’ll be doing during lockdown, dungarees are fast becoming our go-to for a throw on outfit that makes it look like we made an effort. And they’re excellent for layering: they look great over a T-shirt, turtleneck or jumper and are just as happy under a chunky cardigan, too. Pair with boots or trainers, they really are the gift that keeps on giving.
There are so many to choose from on the high street right now, too: go classic with hardwearing denim or mix things up with a bit of corduroy for a nod to the seventies trend; velvet will bring a touch of luxe to the look; or go jazzy with a contemporary print à la Lucy & Yak’s limited edition illustrated pair. Keep thing simple and streamlined in Cos’s wide-leg pair, while the scalloped edge of Wyse’s dusty pink dungarees gives a sweet and feminine nod.
