It’s been compulsory to wear a face mask on public transport since 15 June 2020 and mandatory to wear them in all shops across England from 24 July 2020 but now, times are changing as lockdown restrictions ease.
As of 19 July, it will no longer be a legal requirement to wear a face mask in England no longer be a legal requirement to wear a face mask in England, although the government is continuing to advise that you wear one in crowded spaces. Businesses also have the power to enforce their own health and safety rules, which can include asking staff and customers to wear a face mask.
With stores such as Waitrose and Sainsbury’s doing exactly that and Sadiq Khan confirming that wearing a mask will remain compulsory on TFL, we’d suggest that rather than throwing away your trusty face mask come 19 July, you still pocket it when leaving the house just in case.
With that in mind and temperatures heating up, we thought we’d share some of our favourite and best breathable face masks that are perfect for summer if you’re not quite ready to stop wearing one just yet.
The best breathable face masks:
OmniProtect’s face masks use Livinguard technology to constantly inactivate viruses and bacteria. The brand’s new Summer Mask is designed to ensure maximum comfort as the days get warmer, without compromising on performance. Made from lightweight cotton, with a 100 per cent mulberry silk inner, the Summer Mask is comfortable, breathable and kind to skin.
Falke’s face mask is made of two layers: the outside being moisture-repellent and the inside moisture-absorbing to keep you comfortable as the temperature heats up. There are four sizes to choose from and 10 colours.
Feel comfortable and make a statement in this high-quality, breathable stretchy jersey face mask. The elastic straps also ensure the mask will stay in place and fit over your eays and nose snugly. For each one bought, the brand will donate £5 to charity Hospice UK, the national charity for hospice and palliative care.
Solveig Starovic adapted this design from her original sports mask designed for commuters and sports enthusiasts in polluted city centres, with a focus on maximum protection through very high filtration, while maintaining comfort and breathability. The result is these neutral masks, made in the UK from regenerated nylon that includes recycled plastics from discarded fishing nets.
Made from pure linen and lined with 100% silk, this face mask is breathable and comfortable. The adjustable toggles on the ear loops make it comfortable enough to wear all day, while the 3D construction reduces gaps between the mask and face as much as possible for a snug fit.
With a super-sophisticated five-layered filtration system, adjustable nose strap, two-way valve and adjustable ear straps this is the gold standard in breathable face masks.
