As the mercury rises this week, there’s one sure thing on every Brit’s mind and that’s barbecues. Come rain or shine, we love to grill outside. And with the decent-ish weather combined with the bank holiday weekend and the fact that we can now socialise with up to 6 people in our gardens, the stars have aligned just in time for barbecue time.
Along with garden furniture selling out faster than they can make it, John Lewis has seen demand for barbecues increase by 124 per cent (compared to this time last year), while grilling accessories such as tongs and skewers have increased by 62 per cent.
Sainsbury’s has found that over half (58 per cent) of the nation are planning to host Easter lunch outside this year and 51 per cent of households are planning to swap the traditional Easter roast for a less traditional lunch, with 33 per cent opting instead to light up the BBQ this Easter weekend.
Meanwhile, sales of barbecue coals at Waitrose have soared by 841 per cent this week and online orders for kebabs and burgers have risen by 50 per cent.
