When going through the menopause, it’s not unusual to suffer from hot flushes and for most women, they can really take their toll – especially during the summer heatwaves.
Experts believe that a woman’s decrease in estrogen, spurred by the menopause, is what causes them to experience hot flushes.
Typically, when having one, you’ll feel a sudden flood of warmth over your body, most typical in your face, chest and neck. Your skin might become red and you may begin to sweat. It’s also common for many women to feel a sudden chill after the hot flush has passed as the body has suddenly experienced a sudden loss of body warmth.
Basically, it’s not pleasant at all – but the good news is there may now be a way to make the symptoms more bearable. Underwear brand, Become, have come up with the concept of ‘cooling underwear’ to help with hot flushes as well as night sweats.
The underwear is made using a high-tech fabric with a special coating that helps to steady your body temperature, banish unwanted moisture from the body and reduce odour that may be bought on from the flush. When your body then begins the rapid cool down, the underwear helps to transfers the heat back to prevent the chills.
Become states that 87% of women who tested out the anti-flush underwear saw a proven reduction in the number and severity of hot flushes and night sweats they experienced.
Speaking to Prima.co.uk about its underwear, a Become spokesperson said: ‘All women will experience the menopause and around 75% of them will be affected by hot flushes and night sweats. This means that as many at 10m women in the UK are dealing with this right now.
‘Become is built on the belief that women don’t need to be held back by something as common as a hot flush or night sweat.’
