BEAUTY BUZZ: The new-style mascaras that mean no more clumping

Mascara’s power to define eyes in seconds can leave us feeling strangely naked without it – I am constantly looking to achieve Kendall Jenner’s signature long lashes with my next mascara purchase.

The good news is that beauty is really coming up trumps with some brilliant brush innovations. Chanel Le Volume Revolution de Chanel Mascara in Noir (£28, from Friday) features a brush made using a 3D printing technique. Its new shape deposits just the right dose on the lashes – so you can avoid clumping and skipping bits.

Likewise, YSL is showcasing a new brush with Volume Effet Faux Cils The Curler (£26, The black, rounded side layers the formula on to lashes to create volume, while the pink comb on the other side smooths, lifts and adds curl. Plus it comes in black, brown and a very pretty violet.

Just as the name suggests, Smashbox SuperFan Fanned-Out Mascara (£17.50, separates and elongates lashes for a doe-eyed look. I’ve never been good at applying mascara to my lower lashes, but thanks to its neat oval brush, even I’ve nailed it at last.

This week we’re…

… taking a tip from make-up artists with the double mist trick. After cleansing, spritz on Institut Esthederm Cellular Water Mist (£18, to create a dewy glow. Apply make-up then use again to set it in place during the sultry summer months. With hydrating hyaluronic acid and antioxidant protection, it is our spray of the moment.

Why not break with socks-or-chocs tradition this Father’s Day and give him fragrance instead? For my own father, whose scent wardrobe is far more impressive than mine, I’m thinking Ralph Lauren Polo Ultra Blue (£52.50,, which is new this summer and a classic crowd pleaser with its citrussy-salty smell.

Or, for something more unusual, go for Le Labo Another 13 (from £55, A rich and earthy eau de parfum, it blends jasmine, moss and ambrette seeds – and even comes in a bottle that you can personalise with his name.
