For most of us who have long hair – and if you’re not there yet, try L’Oréal Paris Elvive Dream Lengths Restoring Shampoo and Detangling Conditioner (£4.99 each, superdrug.com), which claims to ‘save your centimetres’ – the tucking of one’s lengths in collars and winter scarves is a recipe for a knotty disaster.
On planet fashion, however, it’s a ‘look’ – as the Tibi A/W 17 show (below) proved beyond doubt. But to counter the murder of brushing and dematting, you’ll need a few tricks up your sleeve. Between shampoo and conditioner, leave the genuinely transformative Daniel Galvin Smoothing & Detangling Mist (£18, danielgalvin.com) in hair for five minutes, while combing it through with The WetBrush Original Detangler (£11.99, victoriahealth.com).
If you’re after a ‘faux bob’, tie long hair into a loose pony before tucking it into your coat – but skip standard elastic bands. Instead, wrap Evo Mister Fantastic Hair Bungee around hair to avoid snagging (£7, evohair.co.uk). Tie it, tuck it and face the wintry world with new resolve. The bonus of the tuck is that it keeps the chill off your neck, too.
This week’s picks
We’re hooked on La Roche-Posay’s new Hyalu B5 Serum (£37, laroche-posay.co.uk) for its heroic ability to save sensitive skin. Not only does it address chronic in ammation associated with accelerated, long-term ageing, it also brings about an instant bounciness to dull and deflated skin. Don’t face winter without it.
Inspired by Aretha Franklin, whose commitment to female empowerment is still relevant today, Feather Supreme by Jusbox Perfume (£140, selfridges.com) conveys lightness and a sense of freedom as notes of mandarin, bergamot and apple blend with a rich heart of tuberose and a base of musk.
As delightfully tempting as a mooch around a Parisian patisserie, Lancôme’s new collection is the prettiest I’ve seen in ages. Masquerading as something from Bake Off, the Macaron Blush and Blender set (£35) contains Whipped Cream Blush in Rose and Coral and sponge blenders in Pistachio and Raspberry to lift gloomy skin and make you smile. For a pop of rosy colour, top off lipstick with the Jelly Flower Lip Tint (£20). All available from 31 January at lancome.co.uk.
