But thankfully, we don’t always have to invest in the exact designer piece Meghan is wearing to get the look – sometimes, the high street comes up trumps with a pretty convincing copy that would have even the duchess herself doing a double take.
Take Meghan’s long black Emilia Wickstead dress, for instance, which she wore to pay her respects with husband Prince Harry at the ANZAC Memorial in Sydney’s Hyde Park last October. The elegant outfit features a high collar and contrasting white buttons up the centre, for a simple, chic finish. However, it also carried a rather hefty price tag of £1,595.
Enter online style saviour ASOS, who has just channeled its inner Markle with a very similar piece that’s available to shop now, for a much more purse-friendly cost of just £42. Hooray!
The corset-detail ASOS midi dress has short sleeves and a collar just like Meghan’s, although the popper fastenings open up into a more relaxed v-neck too.
Teamed with classic black heels like the royal’s, it’d be perfect for a fancy occasion as the warmer weather sets in – but you could also dress it down with sandals for a casual summer day.
We can’t help but wonder if the Duchess of Sussex might even be tempted to purchase one too; after all, it wouldn’t be the first time she turned to ASOS for an easy-to-wear one-piece.
On the same tour during an appearance in New Zealand, she wore the brand’s £38 maternity wiggle midi dress, which unsurprisingly flew out of stock almost instantly – yet another example of the Meghan effect.
