There are two key ways in life that we love to celebrate: with something delicious to eat, or a glass of something special to toast the occasion. So when we heard that the geniuses at Asda had come up with a way to combine them into one joyous package, we knew they were on to a winner.
As of 9 March, the supermarket will be selling a Pink Gin Cake, a madeira sponge masterpiece that’s drizzled with a pink gin-flavoured sugar soak, filled with raspberry jam and then coated in smooth pink vanilla icing for a spectacular centrepiece that looks as good as it tastes.
The bakery team has even added minature edible gin bottles to the top to amp up the gin-credible theming even further.
Sarah Burns, Asda product developer, commented on the cake’s creation: ‘We know our customers love a novelty cake and this one, for adults only, oozes sophistication. Enjoy in the evening with a favourite gin and tonic or, for something new, why not enjoy afternoon tea with a twist?!’
Each generously-sized pink gin cake is designed to serve 18 people, so it’s ideal if you’ve gathered a crowd to mark a major milestone. We predict that it’ll be very popular for Mother’s Day, but would also be a fun choice for hen dos, baby showers, new jobs and birthdays too.
It’s also a surprisingly purse-friendly find – at just £12 for a four-layered cake, the eye-catching new launch is set to make a perfect talking point on any table. Plus, the choice of drinks to accompany it is obvious – pink G&Ts with ice and berries all round!
Basically, if there’s a better way to get the party started, we haven’t found it yet. If you’ve got an event in mind, place your order now to beat the inevitable selllout.
