Forget Colin the Caterpillar, Asda has released a Ginny the Guinea Pig cake

Whether you’re an animal lover or not, there’s something we clearly can’t get enough of when it comes to animal-inspired cakes. Who would have thought that the nation would ever get so sucked in to a debacle about the ownership of a caterpillar cake? Aldi and M&S – we’re looking at you…

But it’s not all about Colin, Cuthbert and all the other caterpillar treats out there. Asda in particular has an impressive range of animal-inspired celebration cakes, the newest being an adorable guinea pig cake.

Asda Ginny guinea pig cake

ASDA Ginny the Guinea Pig Cake, £10, Asda

Ginny the Guinea Pig totally captures the cuteness of one of our all-time favourite pets. The cake is made with two layers of soft Madeira sponge, sandwiched with raspberry jam. Ginny is covered in frosting and finished with edible decorations, including a fun guinea pig-sized party hat.

The supermarket shared its newest arrival to the cake shelf on Instagram, and said: ‘Dressed for the occasion with her party hat and vegetarian friendly. Ginny is the cutest little party companion.’

It costs £10 and serves 12 people, making it ideal for any small celebrations. Those interested in trying Ginny the Guinea Pig can find the cake in Asda stores and online.

‘I’m getting you this for your birthday,’ one person on Instagram wrote, tagging their friend in the comment.

‘How cute is this?’ other fans of Ginny gushed.

If you would rather tuck in to another animal, Asda has got you covered with a total of eight animal celebration cakes. As well as Ginny, there’s a Cheeky Monkey cake, Pabs the Pug, Free From Frieda the Caterpillar (which is gluten-free), Jaspurr The Cat, a Shark cake, Sid the Sausage Dog and a Unicorn cake.
