Alison Hammond is hosting a new TV show exploring black history

To celebrate Black History Month next month, ITV has commissioned a special one-off documentary fronted by This Morning‘s Alison Hammond.

The effervescent presenter will go on the ‘ultimate school history trip with a twist’, as she travels the length and breadth of the country, visiting key historical sites while looking at the history we’re all taught in school from a new, important angle.

During the 60 minute documentary, Alison’s journey will be both revelatory and personal, as she meets with experts to uncover significant black figures from throughout history who have been overlooked by the pages of British history and school textbooks. A new perspective on our country’s past will be revealed as Alison also explores our current teaching of history in schools.

Alison Hammond announced the exciting news to her followers on Instagram, saying: ‘Excited to announce that I’m working with @ITV to bring you Alison Hammond: Back To School!

‘I’m travelling to key historical sites across Britain – from Hadrian’s Wall to Hampton Court – to learn about black figures throughout the ages who have been overlooked in the pages of British history. I’ll be meeting with expert historians to get an insight into the significance of black people in British history and I’ll be exploring the current teaching of history in our schools. Stay tuned…’

The new show comes as part of a range of specially commissioned original new shows that will air throughout October to mark Black History Month on ITV. Other commissions include a 4-part comedy panel show Sorry, I Didn’t Know and a one-off hour-long documentary Black Comedy Legends.

We sure wish Alison Hammond had been our history teacher back in the day, but this new show should make up for that nicely.

Alison Hammond: Back To School will air on ITV this October.
