Aldi is now selling weighted blankets and they only cost £29.99

Weighted blankets have soared in popularity in recent years, and in addition to the obvious perk of keeping you warm and cosy, they’re often credited with impressive health benefits ranging from solving sleep problems to reducing anxiety.

However, many of the top rated designs cost upwards of £100, putting them out of reach for many of us working on a tighter budget – but now everyone’s favourite purse-friendly supermarket Aldi has entered the weighted blanket market, and is offering chic quilted versions at a much more affordable price point.

‘Weighted blankets work using deep touch pressure, which is the gentle sensation of being hugged, and this has been scientifically proven to release serotonin,’ the brand explains of the new range on its website. ‘This weighted blanket’s comforting embrace helps to trigger a sense of calm, easing you into a peaceful and rejuvenating deep sleep.’

The best weighted blanket for you will depend on your own height and size – a general rule of thumb is to pick one that’s around 10 per cent of your own body weight, so for instance, if you weigh 70kg, or approximately 11 stone, a 7kg blanket will likely be a comfortable fit for you.

When it comes to picking an Aldi weighted blanket, you have two options to choose from – a lightweight light grey 4.5kg, which would be a great starting point if you’ve never used one before and want to give it a go, or a more heavy duty dark grey 7kg, for those who really want to commit to the weighted blanket lifestyle.

They’re available to pre-order online now, and will be in stores from 17th December. But you know the drill with Specialbuys by now – once they’re gone, they’re gone!
