The age when people feel their sexiest might surprise you

In our youth-obsessed society, it’s easy to think that your ‘prime’ is over by the time you reach 30 years old – at least in the physical sense.

Happily, that turns out not to be true, as a nationwide study into when Brits feel their sexiest has revealed.

The research has revealed that 53 is the age when people feel sexiest, and – far from this dwindling over time – more than half of over-50s said they feel friskier now than ever before.

A lot of this is down to self-assurance – 41% of those surveyed said they were more comfortable in their own skin and more confident in their looks than ever before. Four in ten also said they’ve let go of worrying about how they come across to a potential partner.

It’s no surprise, therefore, that almost a third (31%) say that the idea of sex getting boring and “vanilla” as you get older is a myth – with 29% claiming the notion of 50-plus Brits never having one night stands is outdated and inaccurate.

They were also keen to bust the myth that more mature dating is boring, with top date choices including fun nights out, dinner at new restaurants, jetting off for a romantic weekend or beach dates. Plus, you probably have a bit more money to actually do these things once you reach your fifties.

A third of those surveyed also strongly rejected the idea of ‘letting themselves go’ as they hit middle age, saying that reaching 50 in fact meant letting go of previous insecurities and inhibitions.

Of course, it’s worth pointing out that the research was conducted by over-50s dating service Ourtime, who may be keen to stress that your love life is definitely not over when you reach your mid-century – but it does back up research from sexual wellness brand LELO, which said that 70% of those aged 50-plus have noticed significant, positive changes in their sex life compared to their younger years.

Turns out some things really do get better with age!
