As jewellery trends go, ‘happy jewellery’ is perhaps the one we need most in 2021. As social plans begin to take place again and we begin to enjoy some semblance of freedom, it’s time to stack your arm parties, layer up those necklaces, and invest in a cute anklet that will go with everything to show off. And this season, beads are where it’s at.
Beaded jewellery has officially grown up; gone are the days when beads were just for friendship bracelets and teenage years. In 2021, mid-range jewellery brand after brand is launching specialised beaded versions, including Astrid & Miyu and Missoma, whose range is gender fluid bold, and happy.
‘Beaded is an explosion of colour, nostalgia and playfulness that we all really need at the moment,’ explained Marisa Hordern, CEO & Creative Director of Missoma. ‘This collection is all about re-emergence, celebration and having fun with it this summer.’
Missoma’s new collection — like many beaded pieces in general — lends itself to layering perfectly, either with more beads or golds and silvers. Be it necklaces, bracelets, or even anklets, beads add a new dimension to stacked jewellery.
What’s more, beaded pieces are often a little more affordable than traditional plated gold and silver designs, thanks to the less pricey materials they are made from. For this reason, you can often get a piece of your favourite jewellery brand for less.
We’ve selected 11 of our favourite beaded designs that are around this summer to channel the happy jewellery trend.
